Pinot Gris Grigio Eden Valley South Australia
Pewsey Vale has established a reputation for wines of exceptional style, flavour and consistency, innately suited to plantings of Pinot Gris. Absolutely perfect for slow ripening, accumulation of flavours and retention of natural acid, the vineyards at Pewsey Vale capture the essence of higher altitudes, through luscious fruit characters, attractive varietal spice and rich textures.
High in the hills surrounding the Barossa Valley lies Pewsey Vale, Eden Valley's first vineyard. Its founder, Englishman Joseph Gilbert, arrived in South Australia after seeing an advertisement in the London Times announcing The Buckinghamshire's imminent departure for the colony. By 1841, just two years after his arrival, Joseph had planted Pewsey Vale's first grapevines. The winemaking is still simple and natural, hand picked grapes are whole bunch pressed directly to older oak barrels for fermentation by indigenous yeasts. Vinified and matured for six months in a selection of seasoned French oak barriques, the parcels remain in barrel whilst being treated to regular batonnage. Alcohol 13.0%
Luminous light peach/ yellow colour. Spicy biscotti and apple blossom fragrance with a hint of apricot kernel on the nose. The flavours of this wine are reminiscent of crunchy crabapple and pear. Showing rich textures and vibrant varietal fruit, Pewsey Vale finishes long and fresh.
