Shiraz McLaren Vale South Australia
The fun and engaging Stump Jump is the perfect everyday drink, as well as a good introduction to the d'Arenberg range. While all the winemaking at d'Arenberg is artisanal and traditional, Stump Jump can further be described as an assemblage of parcels sourced off some very old bush vines. Ideally fashioned to compliment a myriad of foods, the label characterizes the humour of d'Arenberg. Like an optometrist's eye chart, test your vision by holding the bottle at arm's length. Can you read the bottom line? If so, reward yourself with another glass!
d'Arenberg have made some of Australia's most memorable wines, achieving cult status amongst imbibers and judges since the 1960s and winning the Jimmy Watson Trophy in 1969. Stump Jump is an assemblage of barrels which have flowed down from senior wines in the d'Arenberg stable. It also includes parcels from up and coming local growers. The winemaking at d'Arenberg has changed little over several generations, it remains very traditional. All of the reds are vinified in headed down open fermenters prior to a traditional basket press. Stump Jump is matured in a combination of seasoned French and American oak barriques and large oak casks prior to bottling. Alcohol 14.3%
Bright scarlet, darker robes. The nose is full of ripe and juicy red fruits, fresh plums mixed with dark cherry and exotic spices. The palate is rich, round and juicy with ripe raspberry and blackcurrant in abundance, followed by a bit of plum stone and rhubarb, chocolate and licorice adding to the mix. The spicy tannins are long and fine, bringing this fruity, easy drinking Shiraz to a nice finish.
