Shiraz Clare Valley South Australia
Exceptional Langtons Classification. An Australian icon, hand crafted by the Jim Barry family from Shiraz grown to one of the nation's great vineyards. Amargh is renowned throughout the world of wine for its massive concentration and controlled power, an unforgettable, seamless experience of intense perfumes and wonderful textural richness. The Armagh demands a long sleep in the cellar to evolve and express fully the endowments of peerless quality fruit and a superlative vineyard site.
In 1964 Jim Barry acquired seventy acres of prime river flats from Duncan McRae Wood in the Armagh area of Clare. This property would be the foundation of Jim Barry's red wine production, including the world renowned Armagh Shiraz, first released in 1985. The Armagh lies on a northwest facing slope which acts as a natural sun trap, ensuring the fruit is always fully ripened when picked. Shiraz is vinified in traditional open top, two tonne fermenters, treated to heading down boards, rack return and pumpovers, for optimal extraction of flavour and tannin. Upon completion, batches are pressed off to an extravagant selection of mostly new French and American oak barriques for malolactic and extended maturation.
Deep, dark red. Lifted aromas of sweet plum, vanilla and mint. Flavours of rich, concentrated, ripe dark cherries, finely grained tannins and well intergrated sweet oak are followed by a long finish. Ideal for long term cellaring. Jim Barry suggest that the wine be allowed to breathe a minimum of two hours to fully appreciate the distinctive flavours and aromas.
