Chardonnay Sunbury Macedon Victoria
Located in the cool, dry Sunbury region, Wildwood have been quietly crafting wines of elegance and balance since 1983. Priority is given to managing the land with care and respect, allowing the vines to express their character as naturally as possible. Chardonnay from two blocks on the Wildwood estate are fashioned to old world charm and contemporary styling. The Chardonnay of choice to accompany grilled salmon or guinea fowl, wet cheeses and all good faire.
A close affinity to the land, respect for the vine and dedicated viticulture is the key to making great wines, with an emphasis placed on maximising grape quality through sustainable agricultural techniques. Wildwood are recognised for their consistency and purity of varietal expression, despite the sometimes challenging nature of vintage conditions. Bunches of Chardonnay grapes are hand harvested off vines planted to deep red loam soils and immediately whole bunch pressed. Following inoculation and vinification, Wildwood is treated to a spell of maturation in a selection of new high quality oak barrels to develop layers of complexity, integrating the fruit and infusing the palate with texture.
Medium straw in colour. Aromas of butterscotch and melon, citrus and white peach characters over tones of pineapple and tropical elements. A medium to full bodied palate expessing bright varietal flavours, pineapple with classic peach characteristics influenced by subtle oak, resolving on a long, splendidly balanced finish.
