Fattoria Zerbina Torre di Ceparano CONFIRM VINTAGE

Sangiovese Merlot Ancellotta Romagna Superiore Italy
Taking the road due north from Tuscany we find the region of Emilia Romagna. Affectionately known as Il grasso, the fat, Emilia Romagna is home to the magnificent culinary delights of Parma prosciutto and mortadella, Parmigiano reggiano and the best balsamic vinegar. The wines of Fattoria Zerbina are considered by many to be the finest in the region, exhibiting good varietal definition as well as tipicita. The Torre di Ceparano is a very special wine, crafted from fruit grown to a unique vineyard, based around the choicest clones of native Tuscan Sangiovese.
Fattoria Zerbina is located in Faenza, at the base of the Apennine Mountains which separate Emilia Romagna from Tuscany. Vines up to forty years of age, planted to soils ranging from clay to limestone and calcareous, range in density and pruning regimes to take full advantage of aspect and soil type. Bunches of Sangiovese di Romagna, Merlot and Ancellotta are hand selected and sorted before a very gentle pressing. Fermentation and maceration on skins is conducted in steel vats under temperature controlled conditions over a period of eighteen days. Following the completion of natural malolactic, the wine is aged fifteen months in a combination of new and seasoned French oak barriques.
Dense ruby red with purple notes in it's youth. Concentrated and defined bouquet of ripe black cherries and a hint of spice. Just a touch of spicy oak complements the plum and berry fruit flavours of this elegant wine. Fine tannins add complexity and structure as the intense palate resolves on a long elegant finish. Enjoy this concentrated yet impeccably balanced Sangiovese with Anatra alla romagnola or Zampone nobille.
