Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon Barossa South Australia
The Futures is a celebration of great partnerships, a toast to the uniquely Australian accord of Cabernet and Shiraz, but also a toast to the faith of those friends who believed in Peter Lehmann and played a crucial role in the establishment of the Lehmann wine company. The first wine that Peter Lehmann ever made under his own eponymous label was called the Futures. It was offered exclusive to friends and family on a pay now and we'll deliver in two years plan, essentially because Lehmann needed the cash to finance his fledgling enterprise.
Following a distinguished career, in the face of a serious overproduction of grapes and the real possibility of growers facing financial ruin, Peter Lehmann found some investment partners, established a consortium and constructed the Peter Lehmann wineworks in 1979. He was aware of the challenges facing a young winery and was prepared for a slow and steady growth. The Futures is a mostly Shiraz wine with a quarter of Cabernet, all harvested off premium, low yielding vineyards in the north and northwest districts of Barossa. Components are vinified on skins for ten to twelve days before pressing off and maturing in a selection of new and seasoned French oak hogsheads for eighteen months. Alcohol 14.5%
Deep brooding red/ black colour. Bouquet rich in dark plums, chocolates and a touch of blackcurrant. Rich in colour, flavour and structure, the opulent fruit characters are supported by classy French oak, the finish is long and firm. Barossa Shiraz provides layers of ripe plum and dark chocolate while the mint and blackcurrant of Cabernet combine to create a wine of great power and structure.
