Riesling Saar Germany
The Müller family has been making Riesling since at least 1797. Small lots of well ripened grapes are selectively hand picked from the eminent Scharzhofberger Vineyard to make the generously flavoured Auslese. Due to the tiny amounts produced and burgeoning interest amongst enthusiasts, Egon Muller can be a rare indulgence.
Weingut Egon Muller concentrates exclusively on the great wines of the Rhineland. It is here that the Riesling grape reaches a crescendo of wonderful flavours and complexity due to microclimate and soils, altitude and proximity to the broad rivers. The estate focuses on collating only those parcels of fruit which are peerless in quality and of the highest classification. Egon Müller is a member of the distinguished Primum Familiae Vini, a small group of elite international family winemakers who can trace their estate vineyards back for centuries. Auslese wines are normally declared in warmer vintages of high quality harvests, as the grapes are hand picked off very ripe bunches in late November or early December.
Pale gold hue. White fruit aromas and floral bouquet, citrus, peaches and pear. A rich palate with bright citrus acid balancing the sweetness of fruit flavours. The wine displays stony minerality, hints of acacia and lilac, grilled exotic fruit, sweet stone fruits and bracing acidity all combined in perfect harmony. The finish is very long, with generous, lingering complexity.
