Riesling Saar Germany
Weingut Egon Müller retain some of the most exalted vineyard holdings in the old world, they are among the first growth of Rhineland's winemakers. These powerful wines with their scents and flavours of flowers, minerals and spice are capable of long ageing and profound development but are always possessed of a beguiling soft finish. Scharzhof Qualitätswein is the most approachable in the range, an essentially dry Riesling style with a bounty of sweet fruit complexities and exemplary refinement, a compelling entry into the house of Weingut Egon Müller.
The Egon Muller Saar wines are entirely estate grown and draw fruit from the estate's original, two hundred year old 21-acre property at Scharzhof, established 1797, or the 10-acre Le Gallais vineyard in Wiltingen, partially acquired in 1954. Muller owns a large portion of the stately Scharzhofberger vineyard, which is the equivalent of a Cote d'Or grand cru and considered by many to be one of Europe's finest white wine sites. So particular is Egon Müller about the quality of his Scharzhof Qualitätswein, that it may include parcels from the distinguished Scharzhofberger vineyard, to be vinified around a backbone of fruit from Saarburg and Wawern, Wiltinger Braunfels and Wiltinger Kupp.
Pale luminescent hue. An off dry wine that balances fruit sweetness with the minerality of slate soils and acidity of the Saar. It ages magnificently but is designed to be drunk young.
