Shiraz Barossa South Australia
A full bodied Shiraz brimming with the superb flavour, fine texture and sound structure of quality fruit, grown to ancient hamlets within the northwest precincts of Barossa. Parcels are picked off dedicated grower vineyards at Moppa and Greenock, Stonewell and Belvedere, Seppeltsfield, Ebeneezer and Koonunga. Gullies and higher altitudes, steep hills, slopes and undulations make for an extraordinary variance of topographies, each a unique microclime for the realization of harvests with an individual expression of soil and clime. You're in good hands with Kalleske.
The Kalleske family have been making Barossa wine since 1853. Their marque is one of the Valley's most distinguished labels and they work with the most dedicated growers, many of whom have been growing grapes for generations. Following harvest, each individual parcel of Shiraz is crushed into a separate open top fermenter, treated to hand pumpovers for the gentle extraction of colour and flavour from the grapes. Ferments are pressed and filled to a selection of new and seasoned American and French, Russian and Hungarian oak hogsheads for eighteen months, followed by a racking from barrel and assemblage without fining or filtration, ensuring the retention of each component's charm within the bottle.
Deep purple black colour. Bouquet indicates a serious wine with enticing aromas of dark plum, cherry, chocolate, wild berry, perfume and spice. Full bodied and mouth-filling with dark red and black fruits, a chewy texture, integrated powdery tannins and a layered structure. A generous length of palate, flavoursome well balanced with fruit, oak and tannins in complete harmony.
