Chardonnay Henty Victoria
From one of the southernmost vineyards on Australia's mainland, Drumborg at Henty is an elite site planted to several different varieties of red and white grapes. Seppelt do not bottle a pure Drumborg wine at every vintage, the growing season must be excellent and the quality of harvest must be second to none. A splendid construct of extravagantly barrel fermented, single vineyard Chardonnay from a unique and distinguished site, articulating the splendid Drumborg minerality, a wine of indelible length and exquisite poise.
The Henty hinterlands in Victoria's southwest have earned a reputation as one of Australia's leading cool climate regions. Karl Seppelt pioneered Henty for winegrowing when he established Drumborg Vineyard in 1964, with a view to realizing harvests of unparalleled quality and finesse. Swept by winds from the Southern Ocean, Drumborg's vines are stimulated into yielding parched grapes of the most remarkable character and intensity, making wines that are renowned for their long lived elegance. The choicest parcels of Chardonnay are treated to a luxurious barrel vinification, 100% oak fermented, followed by a year's maturation on gross lees. Alcohol 13.1%
Brilliant pale straw with lime hues. Lifted white peach and grapefruit bouquet, complemented by nutty and mealy barrel ferment notes. An intensely flavoured palate showing purity of fruit and discernible regionality within a mouthfeel of creamy textures. Flavours of stonefruits and cashew combine with nutty oak to create a wine of elegance and complexity. Pristine and pure, tight and taut, lithe and long.
