Cabernet Sauvignon Clare Valley South Australia
Good vineyards in Valley Clare make a distinct style of Cabernet Sauvignon, characterized by sweet dark berry flavours, regional mintyness and rolling velvet tannins. Reilly's know Clare Valley very well, highly selective in their choice of terroir, they have set aside harvests from their precious St Clare Vineyard at Watervale for Ryder. Hand picked grapes off dry grown vines, showing exceptional depth of favour and tasteful tannins are crafted into a recognizably Clare Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, that drinks beautifully immediately upon release.
The Reilly wineworks were built around a stone barn which Hugh Reilly converted into a cobbler's cottage during the 1850s. In his spare time, Hugh would tend his vineyard and make good wine. Little has changed, the Reilly's have long since moved on but the philosophy remains the same. Reilly Wines have steadily grown over the years, outstripping the capacity of the cottage, works have been moved to a state of the art facility at nearby Leasingham. Cabernet Sauvignon is hand picked off dry grown vines, crushed into traditional open fermenters and inoculated to yeasts AWRI 796, followed by extended maturation in a selection of seasoned and new French oak hogsheads.
Deep, opaque garnet red colour. Luscious nose of dark cherry, blackberries and dark currant. Generously flavoured palate juicy fruits, logan and mulberry over a carriage of fine grained tannins, framed by a judicious trim of smooth cedary vanilla oak. The finish resolves on a swirl of lingering minty dark chocolate notes, brambles and mint. Juicy, fruity and simply delicious!
