Crafted from the fruit of old and ancient vineyards, the opulence and exclusivity of Torbreck's painfully limited production challenge the primacy of Grange. Established by a share cropper in the 1990s, its precious range has risen to the status of First Growth amongst the community of ardent international advocates. Planted to the tranquil Shangri-La of a sun warmed slope in Yarra Valley, TarraWarra was established 1983 by the founders of the Sussan and Sportsgirl brands. Philanthropists and patrons of the arts, Mr and Mrs Besen, AO and AO respectively, took a highly aesthetic approach to the pursuit of viticulture. Healthy soils and happy fauna were the means to an end, good wine comes from a sound ecology, but great wine needs the inspiration of a holistic engagement with the arts. It is here at Healesville that habitues can savour the Sauvignon while immersing themselves amongst the work of our national masters. A costly collection of canvas by our merry Messrs Boyd.. Bros Sam and Tom grew up amongst the vines of Valley Clare and ageing barrels of Shiraz Cabernet under the Jim Barry cellars. After a tour of study and travel, they came of age and returned to the family wineworks. It has been a rite of passage at Jim Barry that each new generation create a label of their own, one that reflects the times and contemporary tastes. They took a modern approach to the classic Australian blend of Cabernet and Shiraz, an approachable drink for red wine enthusiasts who don’t want to sniff and swish but prefer to share a good drop. A nod to the family heritage, the 1950s branding harks back to the era when grandparents Jim and Nancy established their first vineyards.
Dark in colour with a deep purple hue. A welcoming nose demonstrates vibrant notes of blackcurrant, violets, vanilla, raspberry and mint. Juicy plum and raspberry fruit are tightly woven with notes of espresso, dark cocoa, liquorice and cassis. The palate is built on chocolatey tannins, providing a well rounded, lingering finish.
