Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon South Australia
Fashioned to the timeless and enduring Australian claret styling, proud recipient of the coveted Red Wine of Year Trophy at the prestigious London International. Sourced from the finest Penfold vineyards, Koonunga Hill is known for its fully flavoured palate, solid varietal fruit character and well rounded structure. A firm backbone of Shiraz and gentle oak, in a spicey, fruit driven, early drinking style, its rich sweet palate and savoury finish makes Koonunga Hill the red wine of choice to accompany braised meats in rich tomato mushroom salsa.
An assemblage of parcels grown to fine vineyards across the premiere viticultural precincts of South Australia. Koonunga Hill has earned an enviable reputation for over delivering, exhibiting the quality of fruit and skilled vinification that Penfolds applies to it's most enduring flagships. The aim is to retain the style, weight and concentration each year, regardless of vintage conditions. Already having established itself as one of the country's favourite reds, Koonunga Hill unapologetically merits being appreciated on the basis of pure drinking pleasure. Shiraz invariably leads the way, Cabernet provides structure, matured for up to a year in a combination of oak barrel and fernenters to retain fresh fruit focus.
Crimson red in colour. Rich christmas cake and summer pudding aromas on the nose with more subtle cinnamon/ spicy oak notes adding complexity to the bouquet. Deeper, darker fruits on the palate with plums, blueberry and dark cherries. Tannins and fruit are well balanced with Shiraz providing a fleshy mouthfeel, Cabernet Sauvignon delivering length and structure over chalky, varietal tannins.
