Graciano Barossa South Australia
Graciano is well know in northen Spain and parts of southwest France, it makes a well perfumed wine with substantial tannins, superb balance and excellent ageing potential. An essential inclusion into many of the Navarra and Rioja blends, it can be capricious to grow and requires a dedicated vigneron to produce good harvests. Tscharke have been a part of Barossa viticulture since early settlement, they are people of the land with the skill and love of winegrowing that's required to achieve the most exquisite vintages of new world Graciano.
Graciano is a late ripening grape with exceptional ability to retain remarkable natural acidity. Low yielding and vulnerable to mildew, the Graciano vine needs a lot of care and tends to thrive in warmer, drier climes. Tscharke established their Graciano plantings to a superior site at Stonewell, its parched clay soils are swept by invigorating winds which maintain healthy dry canopies. Grapes are all picked by hand and destemmed into open fermenters, musts are inoculated and vinified to complete dryness at warmer temperatures 22ºC to 25ºC. Batches are pressed into a selection of French oak hogsheads and puncheons for a year's maturation. Alcohol 14.5%
Bright crimson colour. Lifted nose of mulberry, wild berries and alluring dried currant notes. Full bodied, structured palate of glazed fruit flavours, paw paw and bramble berries, supported by dusty drying tannins and supple background oak before a long persistent finish. A well rounded, food friendly wine of vibrancy and primary fruit freshness.
