Merlot Pyrenees Victoria
Blue Pyrenees is a moniker in reference to western Victoria's kinship to the dividing range of southern France. Established by the most enduring marques in luxury wine, built upon a quality of fruit that's evocative of the regal reds grown to the great vineyards in Medoc. Merlot is an essential inclusion to many of the world's prestigious growths, it requires a structure and depth of character which challenges the Blue Pyrenees team to achieve vintages which are redolent with perfumed cherry plum fruit, a velvetine palate and the most affable tannins.
There's so much about Blue Pyrenees that's very old world, the standards of viticulture and philosophy of winemaking itself. A collation of parcels harvested off the Blue Pyrenees estate vineyard, planted on the edge of a breathtakingly beautiful indigenous forest on the challenging terroirs, just outside Avoca township. Components are crushed and vinified at warmer temperatures over the course of a week in traditional 15-tonne static fermenters, followed by a further week of maceration on skins for optimal extract of colour, fruit and tannin. Upon completion, batches are pressed and racked into a selection of seasoned French oak barriques for eighteen months maturation. Alcohol 14.0%
Ruby red, purple hues. Fragrant of violets, red berry notes, regional mint and light, creamy French oak. A vibrant mouthful of fresh plum flavours, complemented by forest floor characters, mint leaves, earth and cedar oak. Firm structure over fine grain tannins, Merlot that's made for lamb, seared scotch fillet or milder cuts of game.
