Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Malbec Margaret River Western Australia
The archetypal Margaret River fusion of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, crafted to opulent Medoc styling by one of West Australia's dauntless winemakers. Evans & Tate command a wide expanse of source vineyards, established during the nascent days of local viticulture. A mostly Cabernet wine with a component of good Merlot and a flourish of the softer Malbec, fashioned to articulate the profound elegance of the statuesque Margaret River style. Metricup Road is drinking beautifully right now, alongside succulent roast veal or pink of garlic lamb.
The quality of Metricup Road is ultimately determined in the vineyard, grapes are tasted every few days whilst still ripening, to ensure optimal schedule for picking. Bunches are gently destemmed and transferred to the fermenter for a few days of cold soak. Fruit is vinified at moderate temperatures for a week, as the ferments are treated to a thorough aeration and seed removal every twelve hours. Upon completion, batches are separately pressed and racked off gross lees to barrel, pressings are included in the final wine to build structure and add texture. Components are treated to a year or more in a selection of seasoned and new French oak barriques before the final assemblage. Alcohol 14.2%
Intense purple red with vibrant purple rim. Dark plum and blackcurrant notes with lifted aromas of violet. Subtle cedar and dark chocolate characters imparted from time spent in French oak barriques adds lovely complexity to the final wine.
