Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Shiraz Malbec Barossa South Australia
Wine Society Trophy for Best Red Wine & Gold Hobart Wine Show. Peter Lehmann's individual style and character, integrity as a winemaker, and champion of the grower, has earned him the nickname of Mentor. Over the years, the Peter Lehmann winemakers have identified vineyards that repeatedly produce their best Cabernet Sauvignon wines. These are all low yielding vineyards that produce Cabernet of great depth. The very best of each vintage is then blended with selected varieties to create a multi-dimensional wine of great distinction.
2002 produced great Cabernet Sauvignon, the Barossa experienced the coolest summer on record, so that ripening conditions were perfect for this noble red wine variety. Chief Winemaker Andrew Wigan, has proclaimed the 2002 vintage as the greatest Barossa Cabernet vintage of his 30 year winemaking career. 69% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Merlot, 10% Shiraz, 8% Malbec. The Stonewell, Ebenezer and Light Pass districts of the Barossa Valley. Fermented and thence matured for eighteen months in new French oak hogsheads, Mentor is a distinguished wine of great personality, and a very limited release. Alcohol 14.0%
Dense black centre with a dark red/garnet rim. An exciting melange of mixed spice, wild violets, hints of mint and black currants. Aromas of cassis and pepper, mint ice cream and beautifully integrated French oak. A very stylish Cabernet blend with a touch of wild raspberry from the Merlot and mellow shiraz complexity. The richness and depth of the fruit slips into the sly and seamless oak integration.
