Jack's son was also a winemaker, he advised Swan Valley based Sandalford to establish vineyards in the nascent Margaret River region. Western Australia's first Surveyor General, John Septimus Roe established Sandalford in 1840. The estate formed part of the second land title in all of Western Australia. In 1972 Sandalford developed a major vineyard along Margaret River, now one of the oldest and largest, covering six hundred acres. Verdelho grapes are harvested throughout the cool of night across several different dates. Grapes are immediately crushed, chilled and pressed, only the cleanest free run juices are retained. Following clarification and inoculation to a choice strain of yeast, the wine is treated to a long and slow vinification until dryness, followed by assemblage and stabilization, filtration and early bottling. Alcohol 12.5%
Pale honeydew melon hues. Nose of talcum, citrus blossom and musk. Punchy in the mouth with some bracing acidity. Clearly one of the most aromatic Verdelho's ever, a knockout top end premium white and the best from Sandalford in the last two decades. Beautiful and fresh now, serve well chilled alongside seafood salads and pastas, risotto and crustacea.
