Cabernet Sauvignon Merlot Shiraz Western Australia
The historic Houghton wineworks have been famous for producing regional benchmark wines ever since the inaugural release of 1859. Today, Houghton continues the tradition by consistently delivering award winning efforts of outstanding quality and affable regional charm. The very Australian mix of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Shiraz, collated from some of the finest vineyards in West Australia, is assembled into a generously proportioned, stylishly well rounded and approachable red wine.
Houghton can rely upon an impressive portfolio of splendid vineyards to source the best fruit. The estate managed sites are planted to healthy vines trained to yield the most intensely flavoured grapes. Warm daytime temperatures are moderated by cooler evenings that enable the grapes to ripen gradually, achieving vibrant fruit flavours. Cabernet, Merlot and Shiraz are harvested, crushed and separately handled. Parcels are vinified on skins in static fermenters for ten days. Upon completion, components are gently pressed off skins and transferred to a selection of French oak barrels for nine months maturation before being assembled into the finished wine. Alcohol 14.0%
Dark red with deep purple hues. Intense aromas of raspberries and plum, cassis, nutmeg and vanilla oak spice. A fruit driven palate of bright red berry flavours, liquorice and bramble berries, seasoned by mint and chocolate notes. Fine chalky tannins lend structure and length. Enjoy with a slow cooked shoulder of lamb or selection of hard cheese.
