Pinot Gris Grigio Wellington Martinborough New Zealand
A Pinot Gris made in true Alsace styling, from grapes that were picked late to give good flavours and aromaticness.
Palliser Estate's vineyards were first planted in 1984 and the wines now produced are starting to show characters from these older vines. The Pinot Gris planted over a relatively small area, gains complexity from differences in slight variations of soil types and microclimates.Palliser has consistently outgunned rivals in all but the most uncooperative vintages, producing a New Zealand Pinot Gris that's like an Alsation, but bigger, bolder and brassier. Fermented cool to retain varietal bouquets and rested on it's own sediments for five months to gain extra palate texture, it's sensationally rich with balanced acidity and a little residual sugar.
The wine has inviting aromas of ripe quince and stone fruits and a hint of acacia floral character. The palate shows concentrated stone fruits, quince and guava flavours with citrus notes and a delicious textural balance.
