Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre McLaren Vale South Australia
Following the extraordinary success of Oomoo Shiraz, Hardy's have assembled the holy trinity of noble Rhône Valley red grapes into a complex and stylish wine. An assembly of Grenache, Shiraz and Mourvedre, grown to mature vines in McLaren Vale, some up to seventy years old. Spicey, fruit driven characters are the hallmark of Oomoo GSM, undominated by any one varietal, expressing all three. Seasoned oak is employed to let Oomoo's primary fruit profiles speak for themselves. A generous wine with weighty palate and flourish of piquant spice.
Oomoo was amongst the first of Thomas Hardy's memorable efforts. The label originates from Hardy's first winery venture Bankside, a property on the banks of the River Torrens just west of Adelaide. Known even in its earliest vintages as a rich robust red, Oomoo was relaunched to celebrate Hardys 150th Birthday. The aim with this Rhone styled red is to highlight the lifted spice and aromatics of Grenache, the rich plum spice of Shiraz and savouryness of Mourvedre.
Components are vinified in open top and static fermentation vessels. The finished wine offers vibrant fruit intensity and ripe tannins, all parts complete malolactic before maturation in a combination of tank and large format oak.
Medium red with vibrant crimson hues. Fresh and vivacious with spice and floral notes, lifted violet and red berry fruit with brown spice. Intense flavours of plush ripe cherry and dense red fruits from the Shiraz, fresh floral characters and spice from the Grenache. An underlying earthiness and savoury from the Mouverdre supports the overall structure. Medium to full bodied, old French oak maturation complexes the tannin profile for a structured and flavoursome, yet essentially fruit driven wine with superb integration and mouthfilling, lingering palate. Oomoo has a lift and vibrancy that is suited to a variety of food styles. Enjoy with barbeques, pizza, tapas or your favourite hard and tasty cheese.
