Lindsay McCall's enthusiasm for great wine began in the 1970s, he established his first Mornington plantings in 1985 on the site of a derelict orchard at Red Hill along Paringa Road. From day one, McCall focused on exactingly managing the soils and the vines, after completing his day job as local school teacher. His affinity for the land and astonishing feel for winemaking produced monumental vintages of Pinot Noir, which propelled the exquisite range of Paringa Estate wines to international renown. McCall works closely with Mornington's finest vignerons to nurture better standards of viticulture and deliver finer vintages with each harvest. Limited yields of.. From pruning through to budburst, flowering and fruit set, veraison and harvest, fermentation, pressing, barrel aging, assemblage and bottling, the whole process is managed and handled by Rob Gibson. Fruit is sourced from the Stockwell vineyard of Wilfreda & Becker at Lyndoch, to be assembled with a harvest from Materne & Heinze Maxs Gods Hill 99 planting at Greenock. Shiraz from ancient vineyards at Light Pass and Langmeil make up a third of the finished wine. Parcels are treated to a traditional vinification in open fermenters, plunged daily, racked and returned. Components are matured eighteen months in a selection of French and American oak barrels. Alcohol 14.5%
Opaque deep red with brick red notes. Lifted, complex pepper spice Shiraz characters over notes of vanilla, orange peel and anise. The palate is powerful, complex and chewy, a length of fine tannin in support of rich sweet fruit, balanced by perfect acidity and drying chocolate tannins. The balance and finish are in harmony, as lovely stone fruit and dark chocolate flavours linger long on the palate.

Gibson's BarossaVale Wines is a small family owned winery nestled at the northern end of the Barossa Valley in South Australia

A specialist producer of limited quantities of premium table wines, it is fast garnering a reputation as a reliable producer of richly flavoured and complex wine. Owned by Rob Gibson and wife Anne, the tiny operation produces a mere 4000 cases of wine. Fruit is sourced from predominantly estate grown fruit with a small amount coming from contracted grower fruit for added diversity come blending time.

Around sixty tones of predominantly shiraz and merlot, along with small amounts of mourvedre, grenache, viognier, cabernet sauvignon and petit verdot, are harvested to produce the wines.

From pruning through to budburst, flowering, fruit-set, veraison, harvest, fermentation, pressing, barrel aging, blending to bottling, the whole 'winegrowing' process is carefully tended by Rob Gibson. His university education in both oenology and viticulture, combined with his 23 years experience at the prestigious Penfolds Wines and a natural curiosity of all things, have led to an intimate understanding of the many factors that can influence the creation of wine.

Rob, or 'Gibbo' as he is affectionately known by his friends, has managed to engage the tireless efforts of his wife Anne, as well as the energy of their five children; Kelly, Kim, Adam, Sam and Abel in the family business. Anne is responsible for all that is involved in getting the wines from the winery into the bottles and then out into the world, a list of duties that normally requires the resources of an entire staff.

Over the last few years, Rob has developed a number of different wines; amongst them Shiraz, Sparling Merlot, and his signature Merlot. Most of them have been made from selected vines from his own plantings in the Northern Barossa. Rob's wines are divided into 3 different ranges. The BarossaVale Range is the winery's original range, featuring the highly successful Merlots. All the wines are highly rated, and have done well in recent reviews, including Runner-up in the prestigious Jimmy Watson Trophy for the 2003 Shiraz.

The Gibson Reserve Range is Rob's Signature Range. All the vines are highly rated. They have been very carefully selected by Rob from all the vines picked and all the Barrels made in the vintage.

The Australian Old Vine Collection are super precious jewels of International standing, and are hand crafted form Australia's Original Old Vine Gardens on a very small single barrel scale.
