Shiraz Clare Valley South Australia
Reilly's are a highly esteemed Clare Valley operation with a history that dates back to early settlement. While it's not quite the complete limerick, there once was a man named Reilly, who cobbled and made wine on the sly. Mr Reilly's descendants still own and operate the grounds, initially treading grapes and bottling small amounts for family and friends. The quality of the family Ardill's limited editions created its own demand and Reilly Wines were born. Clare Valley is known for its rich but soft, heart warming Shiraz, and Reilly's really do Shiraz best.
Valley Clare is renowned for the uniqueness and distinctive style of its Shiraz, effusive yet elegant, what differentiates it from other Shiraz growing regions are the dry, hot summer days and cool, crisp nights which contribute to the intensity of flavours in the fruit. The Reilly estate vineyards, located in the Leasingham and Watervale subregions, are completely unirrigated, depending solely on rainfall, Shiraz grapes are all hand picked off the dry grown vines. Fruit is inoculated to yeast strain AWRI 796 and treated to several days vinification in traditional open top fermenters. Upon completion, parcels are transferred to a selection of American and French oak barrels for a luxurious eighteen months maturation. Alcohol 16.2%
Deep, bright purple/ scarlet colour. Gorgeous nose of distinctive Clare Shiraz aromatics, a concentration of blueberry and bramble characters infused with regional mint, backed by luscious chocolate oak. Full bodied with rich, supple fruit on the palate, flavours of red and black berries over hints of mocha and pepper, gentle tannins and flattering, milky oak. A long lingering finish completes, this stylish wine.
