Ballantine's is one of the world's great Whiskies and a story about perserverence, the pursuit of an ideal and the realization of an impossible dream. Ballantine's the Whisky is an exceptionally fine 12 Year Old, honey sweet, spicy and deep, a generously rich, smooth and complex spirit, blended from choice Single Malt and Grain Whiskies. George Ballantine was born 1809 in Broughtonknowe, Peebleshire, the son of a farmer, poor and often hungry. He moved to Edinburgh, completed an apprenticeship and rented a small grocery at the age of eighteen. His enterprise grew and he began to specialize in Whisky, he was innovative and devised clever ways to bring his stock to consumers. He opened his first George Ballantine & Son shop in Edinburgh and a second in Glasgow. By the time George retired in 1883, his stores held 20,000 gallons of blended stock in bond. In 1895 his ultimate aspiration was realized when Ballantine's was awarded a prestigious Royal Warrant by Her Majesty Queen Victoria
