Made to traditional techniques at La Alteña distillery in the mountains of Arandas at Jalisco, Tapatio Excelencia Gran Reserva Extra Anejo is one of the most desired fine spirits in the world, its rarity continues to frustrate and elude discerning enthusiasts. A singularly profound experience on a par with the most exclusive single Malts and finest Cognac.
The Camarena family have been distilling Tequila for two centuries. Don Felipe began his career by growing and selling Agave, always retaining the pick of the crop for processing through an heirloom still, passed down from generation to generation. In 1937, Don Felipe established La Alteña Distillery in the mountainous region of Jalisco, known for producing the best blue Agave. His grandson Carlos is now Master Distiller, still selecting the pick of the crop to the same standards of excellence set down by Don Felipe. The most excellent parcels of locally grown Agave are treated to a double distillation, followed by four years in barrels of the finest new French oak.
Golden amber hue. Peppery agave nose, spices and pan grille, toffee butter and apple cake over creamy French oak. Sweet, intricate complexity on a profuse palate of candied apple and shortcrusts, cocoa and carob, creamy treacle oak and trade spice before a warming alcohol finish. Lingering celery spice, cypress and savouryness, immeasurable length of toasted agave sweetness.
