A prolific winner on the national wine show circuit, in classically dry Margaret River styling. Sourced exclusively from the estate's Five Ashes Vineyard, most notable are it's juiciness, freshness and restraint, affording excellent mid palate depth. Mealy hints and excellent texture are bound tightly by a tantalising natural acid zing and minerality, finishing long and flavoursome.
Hamelin Bay's association with Margaret River dates back to first settlement by the Bussell family in 1830% The Five Ashes Vineyard has been given its own identity in honour of ancestor and Swan Valley pioneer Dr Samuel Waterman Viveash. The soils are well drained brown sandy loam gravels and the vineyard is fully drip irrigated on a north to south pine trellis, vines are positioned to maximise sunlight penetration. The biggest threat to production is birds and substantial areas are netted each year. The role of the winemaker is to capture natural essences of the vineyard environment without interfering in the vinification. A component is barrel fermented in a mix of new and seasoned French oak barriques. Alcohol 12.5%
Pale straw appearance with green tinges. The nose has a lifted lemon/ lime citrus intensity combined with cream and nut barrel ferment characters. The plate is tight and fresh, displaying grasses, citrus and nut flavours. Succulent stonefruit flavours are combined with wonderful acidity to give a dry mineral finish. Serve alongside oyster, shellfish and seafood.
