Rockbare are raiders of precious but wayward vineyards, planted to outdated standards of viticulture, sadly unviable for large scale winemaking. These are however, precisely the nature of site that Rockbare choose to retain. Winemaker Tim Burvill worked at Wynns and Penfolds, where he refined his style alongside some of the best winemakers in the nation's history. Establishing his own label, he embarked upon a secret project to acquire parcels of prodigal Barossa vine. With a backbone of fruit grown to some of the oldest sites in Australia, much of Rockbare's fruit comes off vines a century or more of age. An illustrious vineyard winery of great historical import, the Kay Brothers Amery property is planted to sacred vines which can be traced back to cuttings transplanted from the original Hardy site at Tintara. A limited edition 12 Years Old Single Malt, released in celebration of the first ever whisky in space maturation experiment! Galileo is a special vatting of different styles Ardbeg laid down in 1999, all married together to give a sweet, smoky texture. The heart of this limited edition is component matured in Sicilian Marsala casks, assembled with stocks aged in second fill Bourbon oak. The Marsala influence adds fruity aromas and textures to Ardbeg's famed peaty, smoky house style, non chill filtered and bottled at a cask strength of 49%.
Named after the father of modern astronomy, a commemoration of an experiment undertaken when Ardbeg was invited in late 2011 by NanoRacks LLC of Houston Texas, to take part in a two year program to test micro organic compounds drawn from the distillery's production on the Whisky Isle of Islay. The date drawn from an observance of the interaction between alcoholic compounds and charred oak, under the anti gravity of space, will serve mankind with the most up to date knowledge to understand why Ardbeg is the world's finest Malt.
