Pinot Noir New South Wales
Tyrrell pioneered Pinot Noir in Australia when they established two inaugural acres of vine in 1972, amongst the first ever commercial Hunter Valley plantings. The 1976 Tyrrell's Vat 6 Pinot Noir was selected for the 1979 Gault Milleau World Dozen in Paris, after beating wines submitted from the finest vineyards around the world. Old Winery Pinot Noir continues the Tyrrell tradition of consistently producing wines which over deliver in quality and value.
Tyrrell have been developing vineyards throughout most of Australia's modern history and are credited with the introduction of Pinot Noir wines to the modern Australian palate. Building upon a heritage of just sixty acres into almost a thousand today, premium vineyards extend from the Tyrrell's legendary home in the Hunter Valley to distinguished winegrowing regions across the breadth of Australia. Old Winery is an eclectic assemblage of fruit from some of the best Pinot Noir vineyards in the country, vinified in a combination of traditional hand plunged open vats and larger potter fermenters. The finished wine is treated to a year's maturation, predominantly in French oak casks before bottling.
Bright scarlet in colour. Lots of varietal cherry and strawberry aromas with complexing forest floor undertones. A soft but generously flavoured style with sweet aromas of berry and mushroom. The palate is long and concentrated with rich sweet fruit, subtle savoury oak support and smooth tannins. An ideal accompaniment to light game recipes or finely veined cheese.
