Shiraz Barossa South Australia
Pirathon is an ancient word for pinnacle, in oenological terms, a full bodied wine of great texture, structure and flavour. Kalleske know the Barossa and its best growers very well. Grapes are from the eminent Belvedere and Greenock, Stonewell and Moppa, Seppeltsfield, Koonunga and Ebenezer appellations at the northwest end of the Valley. An animated nose and persistent palate of seamless length, its long, lingering finish completes a powerful, yet sophisticated wine, a paramount expression of northwest Barossa Shiraz.
Grapes are harvested from low yielding vineyards by traditional family growers. Each vineyard adds its own exclusive dimension to Pirathon. Parcels are separately crushed into open top fermenters, a course of hand pumpovers gently extract colour and flavour from the fruit. Upon completion, batches are treated to a traditional press, followed by transfer to a selection of new and seasoned American, French, Russian and Hungarian oak hogsheads for maturation over a period of eighteen months, before each lot of wine is racked from barrel and assembled. The final Pirathon is bottled without fining or filtration, ensuring the true expression of the vineyards are preserved within the bottle.
Dark purple black colour. The perfumed bouquet is uplifting with bright aromas of blueberry, nutmeg spice, musk, juicy fruits, roses and plum. The serious and complex palate is mouth filling with generous dark fruit and balanced oak barrel characters. Fine integrated tannins give the wine solid structure. Overall, the pure varietal fruit, plush oak and rounded tannins give the wine beautiful harmony.
