It was a matrimony between an American biochemist and the founder of Margaret River Devils Lair, that set the scene for one of the nation's most illustrious estates. A member of the Top 1OO Wineries of World, Giant Steps were established 1997, with a view to assembling an elite range of limited release Yarra Valley vintages. Crafted from the fruit of superior sites, some yielding just a few hundred cases each year, these are exclusive editions from bespoke parcels of elite terroir, bearing the curiously cryptic monikers of precious blocks of vine, Gruyere Farm, Applejack and Wombat Creek. Fashioned for aficianados of the euro style, defined by their winsome fruit and graceful tannins, the Giant Steps single vineyard range are all distinct for their expression of place, each articulate of a unique soil and influence of clime... Torres Vina Esmeralda Moscato CONFIRM VINTAGE

Gewurztraminer Muscat Catalonia Spain Spain
Twice Gold Medal Challenge International du Vin! Moscatel and Gewürtztraminer grapes, grown to estate vineyards on the mountains of the Upper Penedes, form the backbone of fruit for Viña Esmeralda, a delicate but strunningly fragrant wine. The dry fig and raisin characters of Moscatel de Alejandría give Esmerelda it's luscious and flavourful palate, fleshed out by the orange of Frontignac or Moscatel de Grano Menudo as the Spanish say, further enhanced by the complex aromaticness and spice of the vivacious Traminer.

Torres call on some of their most mature vineyard sites for harvests of the wonderful Muscat, to vinify alongside parcels of Traminer, into a wine that is refreshing without being austere, spicey without being cocky and lusciously grapey without being simple. A mostly Muscat wine with a smaller component of Traminer, the fruit is pressed and treated to two weeks of strictly temperature controlled tank fermentation without any contact time on skins whatsoever, to deliver a finished wine exhibiting amazing depth of complex varietal fruit characters and fresh, revitalizing palate. Viña Esmeralda undergoes no maturation and is bottled while young and vital, designed to be enjoyed chilled and crisp.
Straw yellow hue. A voluptuous, exotically perfumed nose with delicious. well defined primary aromas, some floral notes, lillies and rose. The first impression is seductive, with rich alluring grape flavours courtesy of the Moscatel. Esmerelda is subtle and floral with notes of honeysuckle, a dash of savouriness, expressing ripe pears, custard apples and sweet fragrant spice. Excellent with shellfish or alongside traditional Meditterrannean fruit and meat pairings, like cut melon with cured Spanish ham.
