Chardonnay Adelaide Hills South Australia
Tiers is a bottle aged Chardonnay vinified from fruit grown to a spectucalar site, the first Adelaide Hills vineyard to be planted in the twentieth century.
Tiers Vineyard is the lowest and warmest in the Piccadilly valley. The viticultural paradox of a warm site at a cool location, achieving exemplary ripening conditions in the cool, dry and sunny autumns. The vines are hand pruned, shoot positioned and fruit thinned. Grapes are hand picked before de-stemming, crushing and gentle pressing. The cold juice was then allowed to settle by gravity in tank, before racking to new Vosges oak barriques for fermentation. At sugar dryness, the barriques were topped and gently stirred weekly until malolactic fermentation was complete. The wine was then allowed to settle before clear racking and bottling. Tiers is aged in bottle under the Petaluma cellars for development before release.
Straw yellow colour. Fully ripe white peach aromas. Hints of almond and of cinnamon complement the fruit, closing to decidedly savoury expressions, displaying a wonderfully long and nutty viscous finish. A single vineyard wine from a truly distinguished site, Tiers offers remarkable balance, persistent fruit with bottle development characters, preceded by the most majestic, alluring aromas.
