Shiraz Barossa South Australia
Grapes from a patchwork of highly selective Barossa/ Eden Valley vineyards combine to make a rather more elegant style of Shiraz.
Patchwork is a reference to the very nature of the Barossa itself, a myriad mix of cultures, languages and cruisine. Yalumba is able to call on a patchwork quilt of soils, aspects and microclimates which when combined, all contribute to this seamlessly integrated, finely crafted Shiraz. Fruit grown to vines twenty to thirty five years of age, inoculated to a mix of indigenous and cultured yeasts for eight to twelve days in a combination of fermenters. Run to barrel, with some parcels remaining on skins post fermentation for one to two weeks. Maturation for eighteen months in a combination of new and prior use French and American oak hogsheads, octaves and barriques. Alcohol 14.5%
Deep, crimson red. Savoury aromas of pepper steak and quince, eucalypt and spice, it's secondary impressions of blackcurrant and blackberry, chocolateyness and liqorice. A supple, silken texture and fine grained, earthy tannins.
