Yalumba have drawn Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz from some of their best Barossa vineyards. The Scribbler emulates one of Australia's most revered wines Signature Cabernet Shiraz, which has been released continuously to devotees since the inaugural 1962 vintage. Scribbler is a new and recent classic, thanks to Yalumba's long established tenure as custodian of the Barossa's finest vineyards. Equal parts Cabernet and Shiraz, the revered and enduring Claret style in Australian red wine.
The Scribbler is a youthful embodiment of Yalumba Signature, one of the nation's most cherished accords of Cabernet and Shiraz. Choice parcels of fruit, assembled from a coterie of splendid Barossa vineyards, are crushed into eight tonne open top fermenters. The natural or wild yeasts present on grape skins are all that's required to initiate vinification. Cultured winery yeasts are added and the batches are treated to a regimen of cap/skin management and plunging, Upon completion, Scribbler is treated to a year's maturation in a combination of new and sasoned Hungarian, French and American oak hogsheads and barriques.
Deep red colour, purple hues. Bouquets at the riper end of the spectrum, dark plum fruits, black cherry, aromatic tobacco and hints of leafiness all with the dark undertones of mocha oak. A solidly structured wine with full, robust palate, the classic red berry fruit flavours of Cabernet and the sweet middle palate of Shiraz, cool mints and velvet textures. Energetic throughout, before a mouth coating, powdery tannin finish.
