Airline pilots make surprisingly good wine. Their appreciation of the sciences, a respect for the weather and a bird's eye view of the land, all invaluable to the winemaker's art. John Ellis would take every opportune weekend away from his regular New York Paris route, to pursue a passion for viticulture. He planted the first commercial Cabernet Merlot vines in the Hamptons and found time between trans atlantic flights to work vintages amongst the Grand Cru vineyards of La Bourgogne. Ellis ultimately made the great lifelong sea change in favour of our land downunder. He settled on a farmstead outside Leongatha, amongst the slow ripening pastures of.. Longview are one of the most highly awarded wineries in Adelaide Hills, inducted into the South Australia Tourism Hall of Fame for their stately homesteads and the sublime excellence of their vintages. A place of pristine viticulture and breathtaking beauty, where native gums flourish with wild abandon amongst the closely husbanded plantings. It's all captured within the fruit of the wines themselves, the purity of varietal expression, the elegance of tannins and seamless textures, Longview are all about encouraging the grace of a truly resplendent harvest, to retain its eloquence from vineyard to bottling... Just a few kilometres north of Lowburn, near the windswept shores of frigid Lake Dunstan, atop the parched and laborious terroirs of Central Otago, a high country merino stud between the Amisfield and Parkburn streams was sown to vineyards two decades ago. Grazing country makes magnificent viticulture, the austere alluvial and glacial schist soils now yield the quality of Pinot Noir which has defined Central Otago as the world's most demonstrable marque in full bodied, intensely complex, yet beguilingly seamless Pinot Noir. The challenging terraces which spiral around the fractious knolls of Amisfield Vineyard, sire a sensational range of wines defined.. Satiations from the nethermost regions»
Medical practitioners are conspicuously over representedas proprietors, within the pantheon of Australia's most artisanal boutique vineyards and baronial winemaking estates. Is it really all about the quest for a healthy mind and healthy body, or rather something more visceral and indulgent that our physicians are practising? The chemists at Claymore have chosen to formulate their range of elixirs according to a taxonomy of remedial refrains.Santana's Black Magic Woman conjures up edifications of a brooding Cabernet Sauvignon. The Perrin vineyards are situated east of the southern tip of Cotes du Rhone, near the town of Villes-sur-Auzon, at the foot of the Mont-Ventoux, where hills extend down to the city of Sault. The vines are planted to sedimentery soils left behind by seas of the teritary period at the base of the chalky Mont Ventoux. Rich, red mediterranean soils are blended amongst the chalky debris and round stones. Grapes are hand picked, lightly crushed and left to steep for twenty four hours on skins for optimal extractions of colour and gentle tannin, the Saignée method of Rosé, before vinification of the free run juices in temperature controlled fermenters at 21C, followed by a bentonite fining and bottling.
Bright grenadine/ pink colour. The nose is intense with hints of anise, lemon and rose petal. The palate is elegant and crisp with vivacious summer fruits and lively berry characters, the acidity refreshing. A fine match with any grilled meat salad and all summer cuisines, teriyaki, salmon or tuna.
