Originally formulated by John Charles Brown OBE in 1954 and crafted to this very day in the exact same manner, Brown Brothers flagship icon endures as one of the nation's most distinguished single vineyard wines. Mondeuse plantings were brought to Australia in the early 1900s by the legendary Francois de Castella of St Hubert fame, they have remained the most precious parcel of Brown Brothers heirloom vines since the 1920s. At Milawa, Mondeuse translates into an inky, deeply tannic wine, it forms synergies with the sweet fruit plumpness of Shiraz and statuesque elegance of Cabernet Sauvignon to coalesce into a rich, opulent style of eloquence and structure... Munamuna believe that anything worth having deserves protection. Were McCorkindale to reveal the secret location of his vineyards, the ensuing rush to acquire any limited quantities of fruit would force prices higher and put the exquisite wines of Munamuna out of reach for many. High security fencing in the heart of Marlborough, around the region's most splendid vineyards has spurred rumours for years, but rumours are rarely true. One unscrupulous operator who knew about the sites and tried to exploit the location was last seen on a small fishing boat talking on a satellite phone in one of the local inlets. What Munamuna can safely tell you is that their Sauvignon Blanc is from the finest vineyards in Marlborough.
Light yellow straw colour. Intensely aromatic, Munamuna bursts with characters of gooseberry and passionfruit followed by hints of hawthorn and citrus. The palate is vibrant, dry, with racy acid and typical intense fruitiness. Innovative winemaking has created a lively, intense wine, culminating in a crisp acid finish. Serve chilled with seafood, fresh steamed vegetables, or enjoy on its own as a delicious and satisfying aperitif.
