Clare Valley Shiraz are known for their elegance, refinement and grace. Reilly's aim to produce low volumes of exactingly crafted wines from the finest Clare Valley fruit. An old fashioned basket pressed Shiraz, from hand picked grapes grown to the low yielding St Clare Vineyard at Watervale. A wine of generous alcohol, Ryder has been fashioned to traditional vinification techniques, it's vibrant crimson colour presages a velvety palate of attractive berry flavours and well integrated oak, the smoothness and impeccable balance which typify Reilly's of Clare.
What started as a passionate hobby for Justin Ardill grew into a thriving business, the Reilly wineworks are amongst the most salubrious in Valley Clare. Ryder's is an old fashioned, basket pressed Shiraz wine grown to some of the best vineyards in Clare Valley's Watervale district. Parcels of fruit, closely cropped at a meagre 2.0T/acre are hand picked at ripe and ready baumes of 15+, crushed and inoculated to yeast strain AWRI796. The separate batches are treated to an open fermentation for a full ten days to extract maximum flavours and optimal tannins. The final assemblage is matured for a year or more in a selection of French and American oak hogsheads.
Crimson red with purple hues. Rich, fully fragrant nose, showing blackcurrants and cassis, pepper and chocolate box assortment. Blueberries and mint follow on to the palate. Displaying dark raspberry plum flavours, black pepper and spice, supported by smooth tannins and the supple influence of gentle oak. Soundly structured, Ryder is soft and opulent before a long finish.
