The story of Langmeil begins with early Barossa settlement, planted to Shiraz by Christian Auricht in the 1840s, the estate vineyards were restored by the Lindner and Bitter families during the 1990s. Some of Herr Auricht's original plantings are still in production, three and a half priceless acres of gnarled, dry grown vines which provided the cuttings for much of Langmeil's refurbished heirloom parcels. Block 1 is a steep gravelly slope of old, dry grown Semillon Sauvignon vines, amongst the first ever planted in Margaret River, yielding a very small crop of the most articulate Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc with a depth of flavour and intensity rarely seen. Only the purest free run juice are treated to a rich course of barrel ferments in seasoned French oak, followed by a term of eight months maturation. Lemony mineral, mesmerizingly complex with underlying toastyness, an amazing palate extension of gooseberries and lychee lingering to a clean ultra dry finish.
