Grown to the frigid climes of Central Otago, the vines at Prophet's Rock were established 1999 to the most auspicious sites in the nether regions around the ancient goldfields of Bendigo Creek. Challenging aspects with breathtaking views of Cromwell Basin and Pisa Ranges, these are places defined by their fortuitous soils and favourable climes, tiny parcels of vine capable of just a few hundred cases each vintage, picked for their confluence of growing conditions and husbanded by a devout cadre. The winemaking is decidedly French, small vessels and wild yeasts, followed by an extended term on sedimentary lees for opulence. Lindsay McCall's enthusiasm for great wine began in the 1970s, he established his first Mornington plantings in 1985 on the site of a derelict orchard at Red Hill along Paringa Road. From day one, McCall focused on exactingly managing the soils and the vines, after completing his day job as local school teacher. Cabernet Sauvignon Sunbury Victoria
The propitious Witchmount vines are not far from from the relative comfort of Melbourne city but the surrounding Sunbury mesoclimes are very cool climate indeed. These are parts that are highly opportune for yields of Cabernet Sauvignon, characterised by intensely flavoured little berries lined with refined, elegant tannins. The closest husbandry and an uncompromising standard of viticulture, mean that Witchmount can produce one of Victoria's stateliest Cabernet wines, crafted to a style that's so evocative of her siblings from Bordeaux.
Deep crimson red, darker robes. Bramble and cassis nose, liquorice and black plums over a background of new French vanilla oak. Structured palate of black currant flavours, plum and dark cherries on a carriage of disciplined, polished oak, cedar and vanilla spice characters persist before a long, deliciously drying tannin finish.

Witchmount Estate has been making some of Victoria's most consistent quality driven wines for many years, winning numerous medals and trophys, particularly for Shiraz. Many hours are spent in the vineyard and winery in order to produce the finest wines possible. Heart and soul are poured into the vintage each year and have been rewarded with a multitude of trophies and awards from all over Australia and the world. The person directing the Witchmount team is Vigneron Tony Ramunno. Growing up on the property he knows every vine personally. Actively involved and overseeing all processes he has also employed a quality team of industry professionals to ensure the success of his dream.

Chief Winemaker Stephen Goodwin was successful in his field long before he joined us and he has worked at many of Australia’s best wineries including Seppelts Great Western and Baileys of Glenrowan. He is unsurpassed for both experience and skill as a winemaker and has been an integral part in the development and success of the exceptional Witchmount wines available today.

Winemaker’s assistant and jack-of-all-trades Adrian Marchioro has many years experience in a vast array of positions within the wine industry. Involved in everything from sales and marketing to special events and of course the dirty jobs around the estate, Adrian shows passion for all things Witchmount.
