Graeme Melton and a mate were travelling across South Australia in 1973, their EH Holden was in dire need of maintenance and Graeme took up casual work at a passing winery. The site supervisor was Peter Lehmann and young Graeme had his epiphany on the road to Barossa Valley. Lehmann suggested that Graeme change his name to Charlie and take the pilgrimmage to Vallee Rhone. Charlie became prepossessed with the culture of old vines Grenache, Shiraz and Mourverdre. He returned to the Barossa, at a time when old vineyard fruit was made into flagon Port and growers were destroying their historic sites in return for government grants. Engineering types are innately suited to such viticulture. Colin Best embarked upon his sabbatical to the great vineyards of Burgundy's Cote d'Or. He returned to plant Pinot Noir on a craggy half hectare near Lobethal in the Adelaide Hills. An ancient masonry wool mill was outfitted for winemaking and Leabrook Estate was born. This is an aesthetic range of meticulously crafted, limited vintages, fashioned for the aficianado of bespoke, small batch, little vineyard wines... The lobethal libations of leabrook»

Grapes are exclusively sourced from select vineyards in the Cote de Nuits, from plots of Domaine Chanson and from sites in the south of the Cote de Beaune. Soil types are mostly clay over limestone, which yield grapes exhibiting an immense concentration of flavours. All the grapes are hand picked at optimum maturity. A careful selection of Pinot Noir in the vineyard produce crunchy red wines with pure aromas. Grapes enter the fermentation vats in whole bunches for improved temperature control, gradual release of the sugars, and a more refined tannic structure. A cold maceration is followed by a long alcoholic fermentation for greater depth and expression of the wine's structural elements.
Bright red colour with dark purple hues. Intense aromas of violet and liquorice with a hint of spice. Concentrated and well structured. Refreshing and lively. Spicy characters on the finish. Super classic style og Burgundy, ideal with braised and roasted meats, as well as sauced meat pastas.
