Right around the time that Frank Potts was planting his nascent Bleasdale Vineyards during the 1850s, an eccentric Prussian named Herman Daenke established a homestead along the banks of Bremer River, which he called Metala. The site was planted to viticulture by Arthur Formby in 1891 and became one of Langhorne Creek's most productive vineyards, it continues to supply fruit for a number of prestigious national brands. Legendary winemaker Brian Dolan took the radical step of bottling Metala under its own label in 1959 and won the inaugural Jimmy Watson Trophy in 1962. Two generations later, the brothers Tom and Guy Adams took a similar leap of faith and branded their Metala fruit as Brothers In Arms. The quality of wine re established Metala as a vineyard of global significance and claimed George Mackay Trophy.. The goodly farms of brothers in arms»

Situated in Wiltingen in a side valley of the Saar at 180 to 280 metres elevation and facing south, the slopes of Scharzhofberger are quite steep at an incline of 30 to 60. Formed from grey Devonian slate, the soils are very deep with no underlying bedrock. Soils are very well drained yet retain sufficient moisture, a characteristic shared by many of the finest European vineyards. The Einzellage covers sixty seven acres, of which Egon Muller owns seventeen. These include three hectares of ungrafted Riesling vines planted in the last century. Kabinett is a very racy and austere wine, with superb mineral toned complexity and a steely edge of acidity, Riesling at its most ethereal.
Pale gold hue. Quartz and lime, citrus and honeysuckle nose. The most striking element is its impeccable balance. A steely bite of acidity and minerality give it a racy, kinetic feel under fresh green apple and lime notes. With some air it begins to acquire a supple richness, hinting at further development to come. A brilliantly composed Riesling wine.
