Graeme Melton and a mate were travelling across South Australia in 1973, their EH Holden was in dire need of maintenance and Graeme took up casual work at a passing winery. The site supervisor was Peter Lehmann and young Graeme had his epiphany on the road to Barossa Valley. Lehmann suggested that Graeme change his name to Charlie and take the pilgrimmage to Vallee Rhone. Charlie became prepossessed with the culture of old vines Grenache, Shiraz and Mourverdre. Robert Louis Stevenson wrote in one of his poems "The king o' drinks, as I conceive it!" Situated on the banks of Loch Harport, Talisker Distillery was founded by the brothers MacAskill. Talisker later went bankrupt after a proprietor went to jail for swindling on the quality of goods. The Distillery was eventually refurbished after a fire in 1960. Port Ruighe was the once bustling trading port on Skye, the tradition endures as a dram to commemorate the generations of Scottish sailors who laboured to bring stocks of Port wines to the world.
