Right around the time that Frank Potts was planting his nascent Bleasdale Vineyards during the 1850s, an eccentric Prussian named Herman Daenke established a homestead along the banks of Bremer River, which he called Metala. The site was planted to viticulture by Arthur Formby in 1891 and became one of Langhorne Creek's most productive vineyards, it continues to supply fruit for a number of prestigious national brands. Established at Speyside 1893 and built on the site of a medieval chapel, Longmorn Distillery draw water from underground springs and mature their Malt in seasoned casks. Longmorn are one of the few distilleries which were founded during the Whisky boom of the late 19th century and have managed to survive until today. Malt and mash, vanilla tannins, nutmeg and sawdust floor, smokiness and roasted nuts, well oaked and fruity with liquorice and punchy spice, festive fruits and dried apple linger long on a finish, evocative of Bourbon cask, kernel oak.
