Chardonnay Barossa Eden South Australia
Peter Lehmann is about making a delicate, soft refreshing Chardonnay with the accent very much on letting the fruit flavours come to the fore. Barrel fermentation and maturation is used only sparingly, a small component is vinified in French oak barriques to give a touch of beautiful textural creaminess and contribute complexity. By assembling parcels of the finest Chardonnay from good vineyards in the lower Barossa, with those of the higher, cooler Eden Valley, Peter Lehmann makes a wine with great depth of flavour and stylishly taut structure.
The efforts of the dedicated Peter Lehmann team have claimed International Winemaker of the Year and Australian Producer of the Year at the prestigious London International twice in recent years. Vintages of Peter Lehmann Chardonnay have claimed many coveted awards at significant wine competitions throughout Australia. An assemblage of fruit from the Barossa and Eden Valleys are brought together with the aim of producing an affable wine with a degree of approachability. A choice parcel is treated to a luxurious wild fermentation in new French oak hogsheads. Components are aged on yeast lees for six months to derive texture and complexity before being assembled.
Delicate pale straw in colour. A soft creamy nose, fleshy white peach, alluring barrel and wild ferment characters. More peach on the palate, melon fruit with a background hint of barrel fermentation. Flinty acidity guides nicely weighted fruit and complex oak through to a soft, dry finish. A stylish Chardonnay with real depth of fruit.
