Shiraz Mornington Victoria
Paringa Estate has established an unassailable repute over the last twenty years as one of the leading small winery vineyards in the country, named Australian Winery of the Year by James Halliday. Paringa Shiraz won a total of six trophies including Best of Show at the 2006 Royal Sydney, sweeping the field with five Gold Medals and five Trophies, including the prestigious Best of Show and Best Shiraz at the 2009 Royal Sydney, as well as Best Shiraz Trophy Royal Melbourne. Vintage 2007 has claimed a total of five Gold Medals to date.
Lindsay and Margaret McCall began their incredible journey in 1984 with the purchase of a derelict orchard on Paringa Road at Red Hill. Their requirements included north facing slopes, a permanent running creek and adequate wind protection. The vineyard is set to a distinctly unique Lyre or U trellis system employing an elaborate steel frame assembly, and is now producing some of the Mornington Peninsula's best quality fruit. Fermentation of the exclusively estate grown Shiraz is carried out in three tonnes open steel pots, exactingly handled to the most adroit vinification techniques. Each component is then barrel aged in a combination of new and prior use French oak barriques.
Deep scarlet colour with darker robes. Bouquet offers the distinctive estate cracked black pepper/ spice characters combined with ripe plum and berry aromatics. On the palate, spicy blackberry and plum fruit flavours are supported by firm fine grained tannins that will soften with bottle development. In 375ml size is drinking beautifully, can be enjoyed young with the finest food and will evolve promptly with cellaring.
