Shiraz Hunter Valley New South Wales
Fashioned to capture the excellence and refinement of the classic Hunter Valley Shiraz style, named after Brokenback Mountain Range with which Hunter Valley shares a terroir of auspicious deep red volcanic soils. Tyrrell's source fruit from superior, dry grown, low yielding vineyards which have consistently produced the finest vintages. Hunter Valley makes a Shiraz as distinctive and unique as the renowned appellations of the old world, structured and aromatic, endowed with enticing fruit and lined with elegant tannins.
Hunter Valley Shiraz has evolved little stylistically from times long past, when they were commonly branded as Burgundy, lighter in body, endowed with brighter acids and leaner tannins than their South Australian siblings. Brokenback is an achievement in that it makes accessible to all, the distinctive qualities of great Hunter Valley Shiraz, through inclusion of the highest quality fruit, old world vinification techniques and careful handling of oak. Fruit is hand harvested and fermented at warm temperatures in hand plunged open vats. Batches are matured in primarily large French oak casks for eighteen months according to tradition, a component is treated to ageing in small oak barrels. Alcohol 13.0%
A deep purple/ red colour. Aromas of berry fruits with a subtle lift of French oak. These characters flow seamlessly onto the palate, with plush sweet fruit balanced by soft acid and tannin, a classic Hunter Shiraz. A rich wine best served with classic food accompaniments including roasted red meats, such as lamb or beef.
