Tintara is a winery of two worlds. A living treasure house of tradition on the one hand, a testimony to new age winemaking on the other. Tintara Reserve is only ever produced in the best of years, vintage 2006 being the first release since the superlative 2003 edition. Sourced predominently from ancient McLaren Vale vines, well over a century old, Hardy's employ the original Tintara apparatus to hand craft some of Australia's most precious grapes into a rich Shiraz wine with a remarkably smooth palate, extraordinary complexity and conspicuously gentle tannins.
Thomas Hardy's Tintara pioneered McLaren Vale viticulture in 1861 Today the Hardy winemaking dedicated team can draw on the estate's long heritage and rich history to make wines inspired by an unbroken tradition of the most memorable vintages. Shiraz grapes are all picked by hand from splendid Mclaren Vale vineyards. The parcels are treated to a gentle open vat fermentation, allowing for the gentle extraction of colour, flavour and tannins. The must is then traditionally basket pressed before settling over a period of twenty four hours, followed by transfer to a selection of new and seasoned Troncais & Allier French oak barriques for the completion of malolactic and eighteen months maturation. A wine of brilliant clarity with deep claret colour with vibrant purple edges. On the nose are all the complex, lifted aromas of spice, chocolate and olive tapenade with a background of intense plums and blackberry conserve. French oak spice complements the ripe fruit attributes. Plush and vibrant expressions of plum and dark berries fill the palate, complemented by rich chocolate flavour for which classic McLaren Vale Shiraz is known. Fine velvety tannins coat the palate and provide a long lingering tail on a note of savoury spice from the gracefully integrated oak. Highly suited to refined cuisine, venison tenderloin with a marrow glaze and truffle oil or a snap sauteed fresh foie gras with thyme and madeira jus.
