When Kelly and Bondar acquired Rayner Vineyard in 2013, they knew that everything depended on the management of site and soil to achieve the excellence of wine they had in mind. The most fastidious husbanding regimens and a tightly scheduled evolution towards organic viticulture, the propitious Rayner vines have never yielded finer harvests, all translating into a tour de force across the entire Bondar range. Salient quality and penurious pricing make for a compelling mix. Old vines grown to salubrious soils, the harvest timed to perfection, a precision picking of fruit at just the right hour of day, aimed at capturing and bottling the exquisite expression of place. Nestled amongst the undulating, mist shrouded slopes and higher, cool ripening aspects of Adelaide Hills, are choice microclimes for harvests of the most effulgent Sauvignon Blanc, brimming with crisp vegetable and juicy tropical characters. The award winning McWilliams team take great delight in the collation of the finest parcels, to be crafted into a redolent Sauvignon Blanc wine that drinks magnificently while young and fresh, ideally alongside goat cheese recipes or the freshest seafood.

McWilliams endeavour to isolate premier Adelaide Hills vineyards, with a proven record for an exuberant style of Sauvignon Blanc, vines that are age worthy and can demonstrate healthy growth. Harvested throughout the cool of late evening and earliest hours of morning, grapes are gently pressed, the juices are cold settled to maintain clarity and preserve intensity of flavour. Controlled cool ferments at temperatures of 12C to 15C are employed to enhance the distinctive Adelaide Hills aromatics. Upon completion, batches are rested on yeast lees to develop creamy textures and infuse complexity, followed by assemblage into the finished wine and a course of filtration.
Bright pale straw with light green hues. Juicy Adelaide Hills passionfruit aromatics dominate over a background of flinty, snow pea notes, supported by underlying tropical fruit characters. Intensely savoury flavours of snow peas and dried green herb with a finely rounded textured palate that's balanced by a crisp citrus finish. Perfect with prawns and brilliant with brie.

The Laira Vineyard was established in 1893 on the Coonawarra’s famous terra rossa heartland

Brands Laira is today widely regarded as one of the region’s best plantings of Shiraz. With Shiraz being the only wine grape planted in Coonawarra from 1900 to 1950, the variety has played an important role in establishing Coonawarra’s international reputation as Australia’s pre-eminent red wine region.

Eric and Nancy Brand purchased the Laira Vineyard and adjoining property in 1946; and over the next decade extended the vineyard to 23 hectares of vines. The first wine sold under the Laira label was released in 1966. Fruit from this century-old Original Vineyard is still used today in the production of the Brand’s of Coonawarra Stentiford’s Reserve and Patron’s Reserve.

McWilliam’s Wines purchased a 50 per cent share of the Brand’s Estate in 1990 and the remaining 50 per cent in 1994, with Eric and Nancy’s sons Jim and Bill Brand retained as winemakers. McWilliam’s Wines is today one of the largest landholders in Coonawarra, with almost 300 hectares of mainly cabernet sauvignon and shiraz vines. In recent years the company has extended the Estate to include the 165 hectare Station Block and 100 hectare Kirkgate vineyards.
