Old Richmond Gaol was one of Diemen Land's first prisons, built by the convicts themselves, of good old fashioned granite blocks, laboriously hauled in wooden hand carts and quarried from the ominously monikered Butchers Hill. Today, Butchers Hill is the site of the steepest sloping vineyard in Coal River Valley, invigorated by afternoon sea breezes and prevailing winds from the roaring forties, its highly auspicious, self mulching black Vertosols, yield extraordinary wines. Established by founding members of the Hobart Beefsteak & Burgundy Club, Butchers Hill represents three generations of passion amongst the nether vineyards of the Apple Isle. Not just a.. Somewhere near the Seaview end of McLaren Vale's Chapel Hill Road, a perfunctory passerine perched her pincers astride a pair of power poles and saw herself alit. Down she went amongst the dry grown branches of an old Grenache vineyard, setting the valuable veterans ablaze. The scorched site eventually came to the attention of a winemaking trio, the Messrs Leske, Tynan & Cooke, Masters of Wine and a venerable vintner, all driven by a consuming passion to make greater Grenache. Thistledown vintage very small amounts of the most extraordinary Grenache. Beautifully detailed and conspicuously elegant, their floral bouquets and graceful finish emulate the aromatic.. Liqueur
Tyrolean farmers traditionally turned fruit, herbs, roots and berries into the finest and most flavoursome spirits, elixirs of life and mystical household remedies. The secret of this fiery hot liqueur lies in the seventeen devilishly good herbs. Burnet and centaury, curaçao peel, liquorice and cinnamon rind, cloves, wormwood and sage, combined with closely guarded herbs and extracts, all gently sweetened with pure cane sugar. Blended with Fine Old Original Jamaican Rum and fashioned into a deliciously devilish liqueur. Not for the faint of heart.
Baumann have taken the recipes and experiences of their forefathers and created a speciality Liqueur, which tantalizes the tongue and adds to the sense of one's well being. Bauman Teufelskrauter Devils Herb Liqueur preserves the traditions and folklore of the Tyrol's distant past. To this day, private herb gatherers and horticulturalists supply Baumann with rare plants and roots, unique seeds and berries, from the alpine valleys and mountain pastures around Tyrol. These precious ingredients are then painstakingly measured, sorted and prepared according to ancient recipes. Through gentle infusion and maceration, a unique distillation process ensures the goodness and naturopathic qualities of the ingredients are retained.
Amber hot hues. A handsome fifty percent alcohol, big on flavour and ready for fire. Fill your glass up to the top and add flame to Teufelskrauter, Bauman recommends a traditional Schnapsstamperl short jigger made of thick glass. Continue to burn the spirit, concentrating the flavour and warming the liqueur. The hottest thing you'll ever taste, Baumann brings warmth to cold winters and joy to good friends. A sensation over ice cream and super stimulation in espresso, you'll find so many ways to explore the wonderful complexity of Teufelskrauter.
