Shiraz Eden South Australia
Exclusively Eden Valley Shiraz with an alluring twist, a wine of concentrated flavour and aroma. There is great diversity across Eden Valley vineyards and a wide range of styles is produced, from those with a much finer, subtle aromatic to those that are denser, fuller and much richer. What links them all together is an underlying finesse and purity, the hallmark of Eden Valley Shiraz. Yalumba are lead the nation for the partisan efforts at Viognier, Shiraz is sourced off mature vines up to forty years of age, for the construct of an exquisitely perfumed, elegantly proportioned wine.
Vinified in a combination of eight and thirty tonne fermenters over a cycle of eight to twelve days. Some parcels of Shiraz are processed with a component of Viognier grapes, whilst other parcels are co fermented with Viognier juice. This technique produces a soft and stylish wine showing subtle Viognier aromatics combined with the medium weight and structure of Shiraz. The key to success is the quality of both varietals, a good, if not very good base topped up by the perfect dose of good Viognier, imparting attractive nuances of apricot and rosewater. Matured twelve months in a selection of seasoned and new, French, American and Hungarian oak hogsheads and barriques.
Deep red in colour. Sweet, fresh and fragrant aromatics of cherries, plum and bright red currant fruits. Subtle spices and clove notes are present as are the floral hints of Viognier. A medium to full bodied wine with red fruit flavours, fine spices and clove, rich and softly textured Shiraz with the subtle sweet textures of Viognier. Excellent balance, richness and persistence. Great to drink now with steak and mushroom pie.
