Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon Barossa McLaren South Australia
Exceptional Langtons Classification. Grange established an unassailable reputation as one of the world's great and enduring first growths when it claimed top honours at the 1979 Paris Wine Olympiad. Grange is unique for its remarkable capacity to articulate the influence of vintage, while remaining consistent from year to year, possibly the only grande marque to be assembled from an extensive canon of superior vineyards. Grange remains one of the few global icon wines to experience a continued and unprecedented surge in eminence and prestige.
Penfolds legendary winemaker Max Schubert was a man consumed by a driving ambition to formulate a unique Australian style that's now recognised as one of the world's most consistent icon wines. Essentially Shiraz with the inclusion of a small secret component, the most superior parcel Cabernet Sauvignon in Australia. Harvests are collated from elite heritage vineyards, to be vinified around a precious backbone, picked off the home of Grange Hermitage at Magill. Crafted to a combination of techniques, trialled and established by the mighty Max Schubert, the finished Grange is treated to an extravagant, extended maturation in a luxurious selection of completely new American oak hogsheads. Alcohol 14.5%
Deep dark red. Exuberant nose, barrel ferment and balsamics, liquorice and black olive, tiramisu and zabaglion, freshly roasted hazelnut and ground coffee. Fresh and refined palate of gravy reduction flavours and black olive tapenade, a wine of compelling depth, weighty and fleshy, encrusted with dusty, softened tannins that coat the tongue. Great length as sculptured oak and a boundless array of red fruits, congeal into a darkened pool of delights!
